United Methodist Women

United Methodist Women is a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship, and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

To recap 2018 we started off the year talking about spiritual disciplines, assembling centerpieces for the tables for salad luncheons and preparing cards for our elderly saints.

In September we invited Malinda Waltz from the UMW District Mission Team to speak on social action and fair trade.

UMW ladies worked together to plan and serve salad luncheons in September, October, and November. From the salad luncheons we were able to give to local, national, and international missions including: Anti Human Trafficking Organization here in Monroe, Haiti Hot Lunch, Water for Life, Red Bird Christian School, New Beginnings Mercy House Ministries in Ida, and United Methodist Community House in Grand Rapids.

Every other year UMW hosts a silent auction and this year our mission was to give to St. Paul’s youth for the mission trip to Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

During our June meetings we make cards to give to our elderly saints and from that we have created a card ministry.

Those that came to the meeting chose a name and were to send thinking of you, birthday, and holiday cards throughout the year to that person.

We enjoyed wonderful fellowship during our 7th Annual Advent Tea as we sang Christmas carols and listened to poems written by Tom Hegg,  “A Cup of Christmas Tea” and “Memories of Christmas Tea”, read by Pastor Christopher Butson.  We are excited for what the next year will bring and would love to have you be a part of United Methodist Women!
